Ingredients list :

  • Smoked salmon : Cold smoked salmon is the best option but heat smoked salmon too works in this recipe. Make sure the slices are extremely thin and not too flaky.
  • Flat bread: I have used an artisan flatbread.
  • Cream cheese : plain or flavored cream cheese works here.
  • Red onion: Red onion brings the crunch and ties the savory flavors of this recipe together.
  • Lemon : this pop of acidity cuts down the creaminess of the cheese and the smokiness of salmon.
  • Capers : add salty flavors and pop of color in this recipe

Add-ins and Substitutions

  • Add toppings- You can make this Smoked Salmon flatbread just the way you like it with toppings like hard boiled egg, crab meat , lobster meat spicy shrimp etc.
  • Substitute the cream cheese- Instead of cream cheese, you can make this recipe with goat cheese, brie, chipotle cheese or any spreadable cheese.
  • Use different types of flat bread - Traditionally fresh bagel is used for making this recipe. But any thin crust pizza base or naan or tortilla too works. Baked uff pastry sheet is any excellent option in this recipe just remember to assemble and immediately serve. Plain breads don’t overpower the flavors of the salmon and cream cheese, but you can also use poppy, garlic, egg, everything, or any other.

  • Don’t overdo the cream cheese- Cream cheese can easily take over with its rich flavor and thick texture, so use only to keep your flavors in balance.
  • Slice your toppings thin- This is an elegant flatbread, so you don’t want huge slices of onion. Slice everything thinly so a little of each ingredient makes it into every bite.
  • Be careful with strong flavors- Red onions, capers, and dill are just a few strong flavor toppings. Don’t go overboard or you won’t taste your smoked salmon.
  • Keep SMOKED SALMON under refrigeration at all times. It contains salt hence do not add salt to anything else as it will turn out too salty otherwise.

Ingredients
  

  • 8 oz Smoked salmon Approx 225 gms
  • 1 Artisan flatbread Approx 200 gms
  • 8 oz Cream cheese Depending on the size of the flatbread you may need more or less
  • 1/2 small Red onion Sliced very thinly
  • 3-4 slices Lemon wedges
  • 1 tbsp Capers
  • Few sprigs Dill leaves

Instructions
 

  • Toast the bread slightly so it won't get soggy soon. Allow this to c one to room temp the spread the cream cheese evenly on top of the flat bread. Arrange the smoked salmon slices neatly in a way the cream cheese is also seen. then add few slices of very thinly cut onion, leaves of dill and capers here and there.
  • Lightly squeeze the lemon on top of each slice. Slice in to wedges or triangles and serve immediately

Notes

Use room temperature cream cheese for spreadable consistency.  
Salmon will not stay good if left in room temperature. Use cold salmon and serve immediately after assembling for best results.
    • TO STORE: Place leftovers in an airtight storage container in the refrigerator for up to a day or 2 days. But freshly made tastes best.
    • TO MAKE AHEAD: Keep all the toppings ready and sliced in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Assemble just before serving.
